It was a bright day in the village of Umuchieze in Mbaise, Imo State. The air was thick with the scent of palm wine and other prepared food are ready as the Obiako and Nwosu families gathered for what was meant to be a joyous occasion—a traditional marriage ceremony.

Everybody gathered as the groom Chidi Obiako stood tall in his finely tailored senator wear, his heart was filled with excitement. His bride-to-be, Amarachi Nwosu, sat beside him, glowing in her richly George wrapper. Few village elders, where there in their red caps and flowing Isiagu, nodded approvingly as the ceremony began.

But just as the kola nut was about to be broken, one of the elder from the bride side, cleared his throat. And begin to list what they suppose in law is to bring before the traditional marriage could be hold.

It turn out that everything he listed was above N 1,000,000 and some of the youths from the groom side start shouting that they “We Are Not Marrying Again!” in their native language (Igbo)
